Agapanthus... PPF and Sunday Sketches

I'm happy to report that we had summer come calling this week...well for three days!
It was beautiful to feel the sun's warmth at last.
Oh my, I've missed it so much... anyway here we are, Friday already.
It's been a mixed bag this week of lounging in the sun to make the most of it, visiting castles, balancing up ladders to clean windows and pulling various plants out of guttering which seems to have grown like a triffid.
But I did manage to do some of my art project and a quick painting of the beautiful Agapanthus that we have growing in our garden.
I think I'm quite besotted with their colour and I'm also so surprised that I've actually got them growing here in Aberdeenshire!
I used to have them in my Melbourne garden, but didn't for one minute imagine that they'd grow here.
As you can see it's unfinished work once again.
I've slightly lost the plot here peeps, because hubby has just walked in after shopping and produced art supplies for me!
Brushes, canvases and 34 piece Acrylic paint set.
No, it's not Christmas because I checked... nor my birthday... so do you think he's possibly guilty of something?
I'm not sure of the quality of the supplies until I have a closer look, but hey I was taught never look a gift horse in the mouth!
(I have no idea where or what that saying means, but you'll get the gist)
So I'm away to play.
Have a wonderful weekend.

It's time to join the Paint Party link up where Kristin and Eva host lots of talented artists to come together to share their work and inspiration.
I'm also linking up for week 4 (can you believe it) of Alexandra's Sunday Sketches from the UK.

Have fun and thanks for visiting my place.

An Update...

I've stayed away from posting these last few days because when I started to create this blog, I wanted it to be nothing but positive...in both its content and creation. You didn't miss me???
Anyway, the reason for the little absence was that my daughter left Melbourne last Friday for Scotland. I know how could she...I even hid her passport but she found it! : (
So as you can imagine my heart was heavy and I didn't feel like blogging, but then I had a serious talk to myself and decided to concentrate on all the wonderful days, hours, and minutes we were able to spend  together and to look forward to getting together again soon : D

She'll probably not be happy with me posting this photo but I thought it was fun.

So on to my post for today...I've got lots that I could post but I thought I'd include a little update for you.
When we moved house there were the usual few casualties ~ one sadly being my chilli plant.
So when I saw this multi-functional chilli that is both colourful and dramatic, ornamental and edible, you guessed it .... I just had to have it.
The mature fruit can be removed for use in culinary dishes, both hot and cold. The sweet fruit is well suited for use in salads ~ perfect for this hot spell ~ but also in mediterranean and asian dishes, or even a dramatic garnish.

Its the chilli salsa variety..so another hint there to its potential...

Then I couldn't miss updating you on my Jack and the beanstalk story...
They have actually reached my head height already...can you believe it?...I can't. But I noticed today that there may be a problem lurking....there are some white little fly's under a few of the leaves! HELP! What should I do...does anyone have any advice? I really would be interested to hear from you....please :-?

And now onto a success.....my figs...  : D

I can't believe this next photo because I'm sitting here in 35 degress celcius but on Saturday evening we had dinner outside and there was just a little nip in the air...just enough to have our first pot belly fire.
I'd bought it way back in June for our wedding anniversary but just haven't had the right conditions or occasion to light it...well Saturday was its maiden flight as it were. Guess what....it was perfect.

As I mentioned we're roasty toasty here today and have been in fact so far this week, but maybe if you're in the middle of your winter or up to your ankles in frosticles, then this might warm the cockles of your heart.

I'm away to watch Andy Murray playing in the Melbourne Tennis Open so need to put on my tamoshanta and paint my face in the Scottish flag (I'm joking ; D )

"GO ANDY" (well I'm a Brit with Scottish connections, what do you expect?)
Enjoy the Tennis everyone...whomever you support : D

Floral Friday.....

I'm here again in a hurry today....so what's new I hear you say, but we're out to dinner tonight and I have to put on some slap and delve into the depths of my wardrobe, in the hope I can find something reasonable to wear. {Phewph...that could be a challenge on both counts}

I'm also in the middle of baking but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. Maybe I'll post the details tomorrow. I'm hoping that they (whoops ~ giving clues here) will look good enough to let you see. Fingers crossed.
I forgot yesterday....dah....what am I like? I should have enclosed another photo to show you what an Agapanthus looks like once it opens. That is if you don't already know.

So here it is...well nearly open.

There's also the white variety. I haven't seen any other colours only blue and white but there could be?
Here's miniature white ones around the base of a tree. As you can see they are only just opening up, but isn't it wonderful to see something that has taken all year to produce.
We need the absence to appreciate the appearance.

Everything seems to have a blue theme today....not in the moody melancholy way...Its that I've also noticed that the Jacaranda trees are flowering too.

And then there's the beautiful male superb blue wren...

The brilliant blue of the bird is exquisite!
I saw one of these little chaps on my walk this morning but didn't have my camera with me. How Ian managed to get such a good shot is beyond me ~ they're so flighty.

Lastly I thought I'd let you see my flowering pots and an update on one of the Hanging Mangers....

If your in the rain or having a grey day these blooms showing off in the sunshine have to cheer you....surely?

Now I really must rush otherwise they'll be trouble....
Have a fantastic Friday ; D
