Sketchy Faces... in more ways than one!

Hello everyone... I'm here today to give you a little laugh.
I thought I'd share some of my sketches from my @makeartthatsells practice assignment - Faces!
I, like many other artists grow pale at the thought of sketching a portrait be it fictional or real life, but I took a deep breath and decided to jump right in and have fun with it!
I was going to give you three guesses as to who I had drawn, but I think that's a little tough.
I should give you 33 guesses and then you might actually get there.
But it was fun and I really enjoyed it.

One of the many pearls of wisedom that @Lillarogers suggests to overcome the fear of portraits is to draw people as you watch tv.
With that in mind, last week was a really sporty weekend in this household, so as one after another of the rugby and football matches played out on tv, I sketched away.
I couldn't believe what fun it was to just sketch without thinking.
Here's some of the results...

... I was so surprised that with each face the fear seemed to disappear a little more.
So I'm holding on to that saying "Feel the fear, but do it anyway"
Lastly, I decided that I couldn't resist sketching our lovely, amazingly, talented Lilla.
I hope she won't be too offended!

Have fun everyone and I'll see you again soon :D

Pastel Portrait and Pillow Fights

Hey... so it's Friday once again and it's time to party!
I've had a great week and even managed to finish another piece of art... (woohoo)
I think I might be on a roll here.
It's the oil pastel portrait that I started in class.
(If you didn't get to see my previous post and would like to then click here)
This was my first practice portrait in my sketch book, but I actually liked it more than the second one drawn on good paper. I think I'd given it my all which is what I tend to do... I concentrate so much when I first start, that by the time we're ready to move on to good paper... I'm pooped!!!
I just wish I'd have moved her down the page a little, so that her hair would be able to fit on.

Another plus this week is that I've entered a competition with the online store 'Ohh Deer'.
Because I received so many lovely positive comments about my flutterby design I thought I'd enter the competition to have the design made into cushions.
Apparently I'm now entered into a pillow fight!
If you'd like to help me win then by clicking on the link below and follow the link on the right hand side of the page by liking or sharing my cushion design you can help me improve my chances.

Here's some details about the Ohh Deer cushions.

Our cushions are Vegan, yes we know that you have no plans to eat them, but we just wanted to assure you they contain nothing harmful to animals. They're made from super soft faux suede and come complete with a fibre insert. To make postage cheaper you can opt to receive the cushion without the insert.
Details:
They measure 43x43cm a smashing size (contains 50x50cm insert to keep it plump). They're machine washable at 30c and are hand made in the UK. The cushion has a stone coloured back cover - and zip fastening.

If you'd like to carry on partying then let's join in with the gang over at

Paint Party Friday... Pastels

Morning everyone.... it's that time of the week once again when we reveal all.
Well, I should clarify that statement perhaps and say... to revealing what's on our work desks.

As you can see on mine, there's the ink drawing of my butterfly which I did post about last week.
I have to confess I went in once again and added a little more detail!
I know, I just can't help myself.... but I did feel it needed a little more.
But that's it now... it's finished... and I mean it!
I'm now thinking about printing it on to tea towels or tote bags... what do you think?

As mentioned on one of my previous posts, I've also started a coloured butterfly design.
I wanted to practice using my oil pastels, so this was an ideal project.
Although having said that, it wasn't really because I didn't have a pastel blender other than my finger, which is now incredibly sore and has a little hole in the tip!
It also had a tendency to stick up and considering it's my middle finger it's causing some concern... whoops!
There's such a long way to go with this design and I'll need to spend quite some time on it to build up the colours.
Here's another photo from a few days later....

Here's a little peek at another desk that I've been working on...
Don't worry, I'm as shocked as you to be working on two desks this week!
Obviously, the weather must be bad to keep me inside and creating art.
Maybe winter won't be so bad after all.

This desk was taken at my art group.
It's the last week that we will be using pastels and I was overjoyed to be doing a portrait (NOT)
Anyway, taking a deep breath I dived in.
I was thinking that if Penelope Cruiz ever saw my drawing then she'd probably sue me... but I persevered and was a (little) pleased with the outcome.
Depending on the finished version, I may or may not show you at a later stage.
But that's enough for this week because our host Julie over at Stamping Ground likes us to keep things brief so that we can hop and skip about to each others desks.
It's great fun so if you'd like to take a peek click here.

Just before I sign off today I'd like to say that I've been trying to visit everyone that's popped in to leave a comment with me over the last week... but I've struggled.
I'm still working on it and will continue until I've managed it.

I'll end here today with my thanks for all your visits and comments.
I love to see you and hear what you have to say.

I hope your week is going well.
Until next time... have fun everyone
