How Now Highland Cow

It appears that I’ve been on a unplanned break from blogging… who knew?
Well I certainly didn’t.
I’ve been enjoying the summer and keeping myself extremely busy, but the autumnal weather seems to have arrived, so I’m thinking it’s time to come indoors and indulge in my indoor pursuits… blogging being one of them.
The other pursuit that I can’t imagine ever giving up is producing and creating more artwork.
This is my latest piece… the Highland Cow.

Yes, I know another one, but I really enjoyed playing with him.
I even left my glasses off at times in order to keep him loose.
I have great difficulty in keeping my artwork loose… that and knowing when to stop!
I thought this cow was previously finished at least three times, but went back to just add a little here and there.
I’ve decided that am definitely calling it a day now and surprisingly I’m pleased with him.
I suppose he just needs a name… I’m saying ‘He’, but I suppose it could be a ‘she’?

Great to chat with you and now I’m off to indulge in another of my new indoor pursuits… making bread!
Maybe I’ll post about my sourdough at another time.
(If you’d like to check them out now, then take a peek at my Instagram account… #denise.allan)
Have a great day and I’d love to hear if you have a suggestion for a name for the Highland Cow.

Who ate all the chocolate?

After consuming this huge bar of chocolate, (virtually unaided) I have to confess that I realise that I may have a problem! But I suspect that I'm not the only one who loves chocolate.
At least I was able to use the wrapper to paint this watercolour.

I've completed all my current online courses with @Makeartthatsells, so I'm thinking I will draw breath now and perhaps revisit some of the assignments.
I also have a few projects that I want to complete before I enrol for more classes.
The classes and @LillaRogers have certainly ignited my passion for painting.
I can't recommend the classes enough!
I've never drawn/painted so much and I'm loving every minute.

Have a wonderful week everyone and thanks for visiting.

Bootcamp... Yes Please!

I know I've been neglecting posting here over the last few months, but finally I've got some artwork to show you today.
I've enrolled for a brilliant online class with Lilla Rogers and her team over at Make Art That Sells. I've certainly found my mojo once again... thanks to the team and a brilliant special Facebook community of talented, friendly, helpful like-minded artists.
It's my first bootcamp, but I've learnt and stretched myself more during the first few weeks of this class, than I have in the last ten years of drawing/painting!
There are various courses throughout the year and I really would love to enrol for them all, but for now I'll just enjoy this one... even when it is taking me out of my comfort zone.
I also purchased Photoshop... gulp... and learning something every time I used it.
I should be able to fly an A380 by the time I know what all the bells and whistles are for. It's quite a dashboard of buttons!

To give you a little insight into the brief for last weeks assignment, it was to be allocated a nominated powerful female and design an illustration of a book that would show what might be in your bag!
Because I'm a January birthday I was nominated Tina Fey.
I knew very little about Tina other than she did a brilliant impersonation of Sarah Palin... the American politician. So I had to research into Tina Fey's background.
I never realised that research could be such fun!

Tina is one funny, talented sassy woman... mother of two.
She's an actress, comedian, writer, and producer... oh yes and a best selling author too!
Here's my completed assignment.

I'd love to hear what you think of it... or just to let me know you've popped by to visit.
Have a great week :D

Happy Monday... even in January!

I know to be happy on a grey, Monday in January in the middle of winter is a rare thing, but I was happy... and still am :D
I've started my new online art course and it has certainly hit my mojo button.
As I've mentioned before I was a little lost over the last few months and had virtually stopped drawing/painting completely. (Maybe missing Muffin had hit harder than I thought)
But Lilla at Make Art That Sells has reignited my passion.
This weeks assignment was right up my alley.
Drawing the contents of your bag.
It's amazing once you take a look into it, just what it can reveal about you.
So I have a few sketches of various items, but I decided to take this bottle of perfume to another level...adding colour.
The bottle is now unfortunately empty... hint hint to hubby!

I've also another reason to be happy today (well actually I've got many things to be happy and thankful for, but for this arty post lets keep it to art) and that is because I've been featured over at Paint Party Friday!
How brilliant is that?
I was so surprised as I went to catch up with the link and there was my Chef Chook!
(There's also some cute roe deer photos included too...click here if you'd like to see)
Hardly a masterpiece, but it was the first fun piece of the year.
Something to get me back into creating art... and I'm thrilled to be highlighted.
Thank you both Eva and Kristin

I'm off to empty my bag (heaven knows what I'll find hidden in the depths) and to carry on sketching.
I think I'm getting to like this and it's a great start to the New Year.
Have fun everyone and thanks for visiting.
